From Monastery to Convent

After my private breakfast I attended the 9:00 a.m. Gregorian mass at the Abbey Church this morning. It was divine listening to the monks chant the liturgy. Following the mass we picked up Gereon’s wife and son and drove about three hours to Bevegem, Belgium where Gereon was playing a concert in observance of the 15th anniversary of 9-11. After he did his initial warmup and registration settings there was enough time for me to play two pieces on the organ. I recorded myself playing Johaness Brahms' setting of Schmucke dich. That clip may be found on my YouTube channel at

https://youtu.be/IMiw74gDqt0. Here is a picture of the organ facade as well as a few picture of the inside and outside of the church building.

This church also had some wonderful Stations of the Cross. Below are two pictures as an example.

After the concert we drove another hour or so further into Belgium to a resort town on the Atlantic – Da Haan, Belgium. We ate dinner at a restaurant overlooking the beach and ocean while watching a spectacular sunset. We then checked into a nice little B&B where Gereon had reserved two rooms. The name is “Convent B&B” which is my allusion to going from a monastery to a convent today. Ha! Ha!

Until tomorrow . . . . good night from Belgium.
