Moving On

Today began quite early as I was picked up by my car and driver at 6:00 a.m. to be taken from the Maria Laach Abbey to the Frankfurt airport where I arrived early enough to have some breakfast. As it turned out, I had even more time as my flight was delayed one hour.

Upon my arrival at London's Heathrow airport I discovered that my car and driver there was delayed due to heavy rains that had moved into the area causing flooding on major roads. As it turned out I didn't have to wait too terribly long and was finally on my way to the Cambridge area. At 2:15 p.m. I arrived at the home of Robin and Alison Walker in Haslingfield where I would be spending two nights.

After dropping off my bags, Robin and I headed out to visit some of the college chapels of Cambridge University. We began with the largest, King's College Chapel. Although I was able to touch the console of the organ in the chapel, I was not allowed to play it. Below is a picture of me sitting at the organ console along with a picture of the chapel.

We then moved on to Trinity Hall College where I was able to spend some time playing on the Carsten Lund (2006) organ in the chapel. Below is a picture of me at the console of that instrument.

Then on to Corpus Christi College (where Robin will soon begin his duties as Director of Music). There I spent some time playing on the 1968 Noel Mander organ. Here are pictures of the organ facade and the chancel of the college chapel.

It was, of course, getting late in the afternoon (early evening) by this point, so we headed back to Haslingfield to pick up Alison and go to an Italian restaurant for dinner to conclude a very long day.

Unfortunately, due to restrictions I am not able to post recordings I made in any of the college chapels.
