We arrived in Budapest around 11:30 a.m. (August 29) – about two hours later than scheduled (so we made up a little time overnight!) After standing in a long, slow moving line to clear customs, we were able to quickly pick up our luggage and find the Tauck representative for the transfer to the hotel. We were two of sixteen folks arriving on the same flight for this particular river cruise. [Note: if you put the mouse pointer over a picture it will give a caption of what the picture is.]
Our motor coach transfer to the hotel took about 40 minutes and we checked in around 2:30 p.m. Here are a few sights we saw along the way.
Due to our later than scheduled arrival there was no issue with our room being ready and we were able to do some unpacking and relaxing before heading out for dinner.
Unable to get reservations at the restaurant we wanted, at 5:30 p.m. we decided to have a couple of glasses of wine in the hotel bar (an excellent Hungarian chardonnay), then strolled down the street taking in the sights and eventually finding a restaurant for dinner – Apostolok Restaurant.
The weather was ideal for strolling along amongst the locals and other tourists.
At the restaurant we each had a bowl of Hungarian Grey Cattle Goulash which was excellent, along with entrees that neither of us could finish – all while being serenaded by a group of five musicians. It was good that we had to walk back to the hotel where we arrived around 9:00 p.m. ready to finally bring an end to Day One Parts One and Two!
